Cabinet Refinishing in Laguna Hills, CA
Laguna Hills is where we are based, so this is the city we work in most. It is also older than Irvine - a lot of Nellie Gail Ranch and the tracts off Moulton Parkway went up in the 1970s and 1980s, which means solid oak and cherry cabinet doors with decades of kitchen grease on them. That grease is the whole job. Finish does not fail on old cabinets because the wood is bad; it fails because somebody sanded over cooking residue and sealed it in.
We charge $225 to $300 per door and $75 to $150 per drawer front - about $6,750 to $9,000 for an average 30-door kitchen. Because we are local, small kitchens and single-run cabinets are worth quoting here that would not be worth the drive elsewhere.
Dark cherry and golden oak
The two finishes we are asked to change most in Laguna Hills are 1980s golden oak and 1990s dark cherry. Oak has an open grain that shows through anything you put on it, so it either gets grain-filled first or it gets painted instead. Cherry is closed-grain and takes a restain well, which is why the cherry-to-white jobs in our photographs came out flat and even. We will tell you which one your doors are before you commit.
How the job runs
Doors and drawer fronts come off and are labelled, hardware is bagged per door, and the doors go to the shop. Boxes are masked and finished in place. Everything is degreased first, then sanded, stained and top-coated flat, and left to cure before rehanging. Four to six working days for a 30-door kitchen, and the kitchen stays usable for most of it.
